Twas the Night Before Speech Day

Twas the night before speech day when all through the house Several creatures were stressing but it wasn’t the mouse The speakers were practicing their speeches with care In hopes that their grades would turn out to be fair. The class was nestled all snug in their beds But the speakers were stressing as words ran through their heads It was time for these students to put on thinking caps No time for rest, no play, no naps When all of a sudden there arose such a clatter They quickly sat up to see what was the matter When what to their wondering eyes did appear Their alarm clock was ringing as class time drew near They’ve worked hard to prepare and now it’s official So let’s give them a clap, a shout and a whistle And thank you for listening that’s the end of this rhyme Merry speeches to all and to all a good time.

several of them initially set out to study the neuroscience of sound, or of music in particular. One mouse study led by Imke Kirste, a biologist at Duke University, found that “even though all the sounds had short-term neurological effects, not one of them had a lasting impact,” Gross writes. “Yet to her great surprise, Kirste found that two hours of silence per day prompted cell development in the hippocampus, the brain region related to the formation of memory involving the   senses.” Florence Nightingale, the 19th century British nurse and social activist, once wrote that “Unnecessary noise is the most cruel absence of care that can be inflicted on sick or well.” Nightingale argued that needless sounds  could cause distress, sleep loss and alarm  for recovering patients. It turns out that noise pollution  has been found  to lead to high blood pressure and heart attacks, as well as impairing hearing and overall health. Loud noises raise stress level...

Familiar as Strange

You sit down Here you are once more Wondering why in the world you’ve done this to yourself again You know you really should’ve learned the first time Your knuckles clench You break out in a sweat And that knot in your stomach gets a little bit tighter All you want to do is leave But unfortunately, you’re in too deep There’s no going back now Then, whatever you are sitting in slowly reclines You look up but close your eyes Because everyone you’ve ever known said not to go towards the light Your mouth opens in fear but no sound comes out Then it’s as if everything else just disappears You’re left with 1 single noise You hear the clinking of metal It sounds as though it’s getting closer… and closer… and closer It stops. You open your eyes wondering if the torture is done But you quickly realize that it’s only just begun You’re left with a decision Keep your eyes open and know Or keep your eyes closed and don’t You decide on the second. Introduction: We do not intend to persuade or state that LDS women should not or cannot go to college but rather to explore and express the benefits of finding alternative ways of receiving an education. We will be focusing mainly on LDS women but the information we will provide is beneficial to all people regardless of gender or religion. We will be talking about how there are successful people who never got a college degree, or dropped out of college. We will also be covering the Church's emphasis on how we are encouraged to gain an education, but that not necessarily meaning we need a college degree. The last thing that we will be talking about is the role of mothers and motherhood in the family and in the world. We invite you to apply the information that we will share to your own life and ask yourself critical questions as we discuss statistics, real stories, and rising problems to the dear sisters of this church and society. #1 Successful People/how to be successful wi...
